HIGH BALL LAW CHANGES ARE A DANGEROUS GAME

When Ben Smith fell on his head during the Highlanders’ opening match against the Chiefs, discussion in the New Zealand media immediately began about the need for an urgent law change to the high ball contest. The following week, Crusaders flanker Jordan Taufua fell hard on his back after a mid-air collision with Lima Sopoaga.

Smith is a high-profile All Black while Taufua is on the cusp, and as cynical as I may be, I have a simple question: were those two not superstars, would the Kiwi pundits be making such a song and dance about it all?
